When I wrote about the Belo House and the Flood of 1940, I had no idea that this year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Kerr Scott Dam and Reservoir. This morning, on the front page of the Winston-Salem Journal, there was a very detailed article about the dam's history and the celebration that is taking place next week.
The celebration will be at Dark Mountain Park, located near the Visitor Assistance Center at the dam on September 15. There will be a cake-cutting at 11am, and exhibitors will be in the Dark Mountain fields from 1-3pm. There will be games and activities for children, as well as tours.
