Free Concert Series at Barber Park

Free Concert Series at Barber Park

Greensboro

Starting May 1, 2016

Music Starts at 6pm

Info from the facebook event:  Join us each week at Barber Park, starting May 1 through July 9, for a great night of FREE, live music at the Levitt AMP Greensboro Music Series! This series features a diverse lineup of outstanding artists in genres ranging from blues, spoken word, Latin, soul, funk, rock 'n roll, and more. There will be something for everyone to enjoy!

The Levitt AMP Greensboro Music Series will kickoff on May 1 with Greensboro's own Gate City Divas and The Bailey Heavenly Sounds from Greensboro's United House of Prayer. The grounds at Barber Park open at 5 pm, and the music starts at 6 pm.

About the Gate City Divas: The Gate City Divas’ debut record, Goin’ to Town, hit the Greensboro music scene in March 2016, and its fifteen original hits—filthy with funk, R&B, and blues—were quickly met with high praise, both on the streets and in the press. The project is a celebration of these women and their common—but diverse—musical backgrounds, their shared and singular voices as songwriters, and their eight hearts overflowing for their community.

About the Bailey Heavenly Sounds from Greensboro's United House of Prayer:the Bailey Heavenly Sounds Shout Band from Greensboro’s United House of Prayer for All People (UHOPFAP) will kick off our entire Levitt AMP Greensboro Music Series in a big way! We dare you to keep still when the tuba, baritone, and all those trombones start swinging! (Hint: It’s impossible!)

The Levitt AMP Greensboro Music Series is supported in part by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a private family foundation that empowers towns and cities across America to transform neglected public spaces into thriving destinations through the power of free, live music. In 2016, more than 450 free Levitt concerts will take place in 21 towns and cities, all featuring a rich array of music genres and high caliber talent. Learn more at levitt.org.

Leaf Collection in the Piedmont Triad

Leaf collection is a service that is provided by most of the larger cities in the Piedmont Triad. A few things to remember when bringing your leaves toward the street:
1. Rake leaves to the edge of your yard, behind the curb, and not on the street
2. Sticks, rocks or debris can damage the equipment. Please be sure there are only leaves in the pile.
3. Do not park on, near, or in front of a pile of leaves.  This video from Greensboro shows why.

4. Do not put your leaves on a tarp.

Leaves can NOT be burned inside the city limits!

Within the city of Winston-Salem, you can check your leaf collection date on the city website here. Check collection schedule DAILY for UPDATES as estimated time of collection is subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment problems and the volume of leaves placed out for collection. As a gauge for your own leaf collection, we were scheduled for pick-up the week of November 19 and our leaves were collected yesterday, December 5. The following video is of the city collecting leaves from our front yard.

In the City of Greensboro, there are two collection rounds. If your leaves are at the curb by November 13 they will be picked up by December 21. If your leaves are curbside by December 26, they will be picked up by January 26, 2013.

Greensboro Children's Museum-- $10 off Membership in September

Family membership to the Greensboro Children's Museum includes a lot! You get
The month of September is Membership Appreciation Month, and the museum offers $10 off the membership price through September 30!  That brings the membership price down to only $85 for two adults and all household children... which seems like a lot, but consider this.

Adults and ages 12months+  tickets are $7.00 each.  That's an admission cost of $28 for a family of four, more than  my prescribed price range of less than $20 for a family of four.   If you visit the museum four times a year, you have already saved money by purchasing a membership!  If you go once a month, you're almost making money!  (Okay, that last part's a stretch.)  If you visit the museum with your family once a month, that brings the total cost to just over $7.00 each visit... now that's a deal!
