The Sacred Art Tour is sponsored by Drepung Gomang Institute, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. It is the official USA seat of Drepung Gomang Monastery. Drepung Gomang Tour members are refugee monks now living at the monastery. The Drepung Gomang Monastery was founded in 1416 near Lhasa, Tibet and its college is the oldest of the four colleges of Drepung. In 1959, before the invasion of Communist China, Drepung Monastery has more than 10,000 monks. Gomang College produced many eminent Buddhist masters and has been a very important Tibetan Buddhist learning center. Each of the colleges of Drepung has its specialty and the focus of Gomang is philosophy, logic and debate.
Reservations are encouraged for the Evening with the Monks and the Workshop, because they have filled up early in the past years. Go to www.monkstour.info to make your reservations online.
